10 steps to becoming a PMP and how boot camp will influence your PMP career?

The work of project management is like starting at the top of the pyramid and then progressively elaborating the information from the very top to the very broad base of planning information that will be completed during the planning process. Think about the project charter as the very top of the pyramid. The charter needs to be established in order to properly plan the rest of the project, and, as you learned in this module, the charter is used to formally authorize the project. This is a formal written document that explains the basis of the project.

First is block 1, which is all about the project’s objectives. The project’s objectives are set to serve as a roadmap for the project team on what there’s to achieve by the completion of the project. We explain these objectives in terms of three parameters. The first parameter is the rationale for the project. The rationale really describes why the project is being undertaken. In this section, we explore the social good or perhaps the community intervention that the project is trying to create. The second parameter of the [project’s objectives]section is the real objectives that will be obtained at the end of the project. This section describes what will be accomplished. In most of our projects with NGOs projects, we probably have several objectives that must be accomplished. Now, all of these achievements must be noted in this section of the charter. The last parameter of the objectives section is called the strategy. The strategy covers how the project team will achieve the objectives. The strategy, actually, has multiple set topics that must be covered. The first is a short description of the intervention model that will be used to achieve the objectives. Next, the strategy section should describe the scope of the project. The scope is a list of everything that will be provided as part of the project, as well as what won’t be provided as part of the project. The next topic of the strategy section of the charter is a list of major milestones. Every project should provide milestones through the duration of the project to show the stakeholders that progress is being made.

Now, the next topic is a summarized budget, which breaks the total budget into logical groupings. And then, the last topic of the strategy section of the charter is a list of high-level risks that will be watched in the project. We’re going to talk more about risks in later modules of the course. After completion of these parameters, we will put together the objective section for the project charter. Now, next, the course described block 2 of the project charter, which is concerned with the project team. This section describes the “who’s who” for the project. The course describes several groups that need to be defined and recognized as part of the project team. The first group is the governance structure. This group is concerned with how the project completes its work to achieve the objectives and then how it’s spending its money. They oversee the work of the project. The next group is the management structure. Now, many times in our NGO projects, we have several organizations working together to achieve the objectives of the project. This section of the charter names those groups and describes how they are going to work together. Now, another key portion of the charter is the description of how the change will be managed across the project. This function is called a change control system.

This section describes how the project team and each of the management and governance structures will work to control changes to the project. This completes the major sections of the project charter on how to complete your project management courses properly. This discussion was mainly based on the external factors which affect a project manager’s professional life. There are other domains that are important and can be discussed, as well.
